VinFuture Unveils the Prize Council and Pre-Screening Committee for the prestigious $4.5 Million VinFuture Prize

The VinFuture Foundation has unveiled its esteemed Prize Council and Pre-Screening Committee for the 2025 award season, featuring a notable cohort of new members. These globally recognized luminaries, who will preside over the evaluation of the distinguished $4.5 million science and technology awards, are preeminent figures in pivotal, forward-looking disciplines with the potential to define humanity's trajectory.

The distinguished members of the 2025 VinFuture Prize Council and Pre-Screening Committee comprise preeminent authorities in disciplines including robotics, artificial intelligence, biochemistry, meteorology and atmospheric physics, and materials science and engineering. These pivotal domains are currently at the forefront of global interest and are widely anticipated to define the trajectory of scientific and technological advancement, as well as the future of humanity.

Notably, this year, the Prize Council welcomes Prof. Daniela Rus (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, United States), and the Pre-Screening Committee welcomes three new members, Prof. Ana Belén Elgoyhen (University of Buenos Aires, Argentina), Dr. Filippo Giorgi (Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Italy) and Dr. Jayshree Seth (3M Company, United States).

Upon accepting her role on the VinFuture Prize Council, Prof. Daniela Rus shared: “The VinFuture Prize is a remarkable initiative that honors outstanding contributions to science and technology, and it is wonderful to see AI researchers and advancements receiving this level of recognition. I hope that this collaboration will serve as a rallying point to inspire young people, researchers, and developers worldwide to push the boundaries of AI and robotics.”

Prof. Daniela Rusa new member of the VinFuture Prize Council, holds a PhD in Computer Science from Cornell University (United States). She is currently the Andrew and Erna Viterbi Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Director of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) at MIT (United States). She a member of the National Academy of Engineering, and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Her research interests are in robotics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, and their applications toward a better world. She is the recipient of the Engelberger Award for robotics, the IEEE RAS Technical Award, the John Scott Medal, and the IEEE Edison Medal.

This year, the VinFuture Prize Pre-Screening Committee welcomes Prof. Ana Belén Elgoyhen, a Senior Scientist and Vice-Director of the Institute for Research in Genetic Engineer and Molecular Biology, National Research Council (CONICET), Argentina, and a member of the World Academy of Science, the Latin American Academy of Science and the Argentine Academy of Science. Also joining the Pre-Screening Committee this year is Dr. Filippo Giorgi, a distinguished expert in the field of meteorology and atmospheric physics with outstanding contributions to climate research and to the advancement of science in developing countries. Dr. Giorgi is currently an Emeritus Scientist at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy. In 2020, a study by Stanford University based on multiple bibliometric indicators ranked him 11th (out of 54,940) in the list of the most influential scientists worldwide in the field of Meteorology and Atmospheric Physics. Throughout his career, Dr. Giorgi has received numerous awards, including the 2018 Alexander von Humboldt Medal of the European Geosciences Union (EGU).

Furthermore, the Pre-Screening Committee also welcomes Dr. Jayshree Seth, a leading expert and the first-ever Chief Science Advocate at 3M (United States). Her impressive career boasts 80 patents alongside a series of top-tier global accolades, notably the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) highest Achievement Award, the first-ever winner of a Gold Stevie® Award in the new Female Thought Leaders of the Year – category in the 18th annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business. She was also named to the Thinkers50 Radar list, which highlights emerging thinkers poised to shape the future of management in the coming years.

The 2025 VinFuture Prize is officially calling for nominations. The deadline for nomination submissions for the 2025 VinFuture Prize is 2:00 PM, April 17, 2025 (Vietnam Time, GMT +7). Nominations received after this deadline will be considered for the following year.

After 4 years of operations, the Prize has attracted nearly 3 times the number of nominations – from 599 projects in the first year to 1,469 projects in the most recent season in 2024. Many laureates of the VinFuture Prize have continued to receive recognition from prestigious international awards, such as the Nobel Prize and the Breakthrough Prize.
