Dr. Xuedong Huang, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Zoom Video Communications (United States) and Member of the VinFuture Prize Council, has over 30 years of experience in computer science and artificial intelligence, in which he laid the basic groundwork for Spoken Language Processing (SLP) for machine-learning systems, as well as other core AI functionalities like speech recognition, natural language processing, and computer vision from a very early stage.
During his time at Microsoft, Dr. Huang served as Azure AI Chief Technology Officer, where he showcased his leadership skills in driving large-scale AI initiatives. He played a key role in the development of Microsoft’s virtual assistant, Cortana, which integrates speech recognition and natural language understanding to provide intelligent responses and perform tasks.
Dr. Huang holds over 170 US patents in artificial intelligence technology contributing to the academic understanding and practical applications. He was awarded the Allen Newell research excellence medal in 1992, elected as member of the National Academy of Engineering, Washington’s State Academy of Sciences, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, as well as a fellow of IEEE and ACM.
As a leader in Integrative AI, Dr. Huang’s impact is widely acknowledged through his leadership and technological contributions, as well as his pioneering research in AI’s language learning. His work has advanced the capabilities of AI systems in understanding and generating human language.
