On March 27, the VinFuture Foundation successfully orchestrated the final “Call for Nominations” webinar in preparation for the 2024 award season. It meticulously provided comprehensive guidelines for nomination partners and scientists interested in the Prize. Nearly 140 leading scientists and experts from 27 countries around the world attended the webinar.
Chaired the webinar were esteemed figures: Prof. Chi Van Dang, Member of the VinFuture Prize Council, and Prof. Mônica Alonso Cotta, Member of the VinFuture Prize Pre-Screening Committee. They disseminated crucial insights on nomination procedures while rallying support among scientists. Notably, the presence of Prof. Vo Tong Xuan, the first Vietnamese laureate of the VinFuture Prize, served as a profound source of inspiration for both researchers and nomination partners within the Global South.
Prof. Xuan stated: “The Prize is designed to reward competitive achievements of individuals who can impact humanity at large instead of solely satisfying their professional ambitions. That’s why the VinFuture Prize calls for scientists not to confine themselves to their ‘ivory towers’; they should go out and bring their results to create an impact on humanity.”
Carrying the mission of “Science for Humanity,” according to Prof. Mônica Cotta, the VinFuture Prize emphasizes the need for science to contribute to improving the quality of life, ensuring food security, and providing housing for 8 billion people on Earth. She also believes that the Prize is a successful testament to inspiring scientists to pursue careers in their desired fields.
“The VinFuture Prize stands out from other awards by honoring research that benefits humanity. We have to be reminded that science has to go towards providing dignity in living standards, in food, in shelter for the 8 billion lives on planet Earth. This includes the whole package of values that the VinFuture Prize represents. It not only honors individuals who contribute to advancements in science and technology but also illustrates the trajectory of scientific development, thereby inspiring others to pursue careers in these fields,” Prof. Mônica Cotta emphasized.
The deadline for nomination submissions for the 2024 VinFuture Prize is 2:00 PM, April 17th, 2024 (Vietnam Time, GMT +7). Nominations received after this deadline will be considered for the following year.
Previously, the recently concluded 2023 VinFuture Prize award season garnered a robust response from the global science and technology community, with nearly 1,400 exceptional nominations from scientists, researchers, and inventors worldwide. The third season made a significant impact by connecting and inspiring the country’s scientific community, leaving a legacy of success.
